Album Cover
Built to Spill is a 90s alternative band that promotes a message of not caring about the “pop culture of grunge” and pursuing one's creative expressions. To complement this nontraditional aesthetic of a band and the album, the design is nontraditional and utilizes outsider art practices. The grid set in place was created using black-and-white photography of abandoned buildings built off the foundation beams. Alongside the implemented photographs and artistic imagery, there is a duality of both handwritten type and vectorized fonts that blend. To complement the vectorized type, there are vectorized shapes that anchor the rest of the project together to create a mixed media design that “pursues one's creative expressions.”
